The Holy Spirit is the Great Comforter.

"God IS the Father who is full of mercy and all comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God goves us."
(2 Cor 1:3-4 from the Instpirational Bible.)

God's comfort and deliverance are certainties, even in the middle of difficult trials. We can confidently rely upon him as we make our plans.

"why?" we wonder as we try to put the pieces back together in a broken relationship.

"why?" we ask as we see the devastation and loss left behind after hurricane Isaac.

"why?" we cry as we see how our loved one suffered through her cancer and died, and doesn't even
look like herself as she lies there lifeless in her casket.

Life is short and sometimes tragic, and each day we are reminded of our limits as human beings. We don't know the future, we don't know the relationship between events, and we certainly don't know why.

But we do know that God is good and all knowing - - nothing catches him by surprise, not the weather events, not the results of elections, not the malignant tumor, not anything! So even as we wonder and question the reason and cause for each event, we can be confident that God knows and that in everything, even the senseless tragedys that happen, HE IS WORKING! Yes HE is in control!

Let's all call or write a friend today with encouragement.

Philippians 2:1-2 "Does your life in Christ give you strength? Does His love comfort you? Do we share together in the spirit? Do you have mercy and kindness? If so, be united in your convictions, and united in your love, with a common purpose and a common mind."

Well said, Mom.
A friend of mine got into a horrible motorcycle accident this summer. She spent weeks in ICU, and is now in a rehab center here in Gville. She, and many others, have asked "Why?" There is no answer to that question! But when I talked with her yesterday she was able to see the amazing grace of God in the fact that she is alive and will recover completely. Little things, like the type of helmet she was wearing which most likely saved her spine, help her see the hand of God in this terrible time.

"What is the good that I can find in my current trial?" We could ask ourselves, and know that by going through this trial, we can be a comfort to others when they have trouble.

Yes, sometimes I believe that is why God gives us our trials. So that we can know HE is at work through it all, and so that we can help someone someday going through the same trials and pains. We'll all pray for your friend. Complete healing, and thanksgiving for how much has already happened for her and that she sees God's hand in it all.
