"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
The footnote in my Bible says, "When you make the Lord your joy, the desires that grow in your heart are usually the ones He plants. These are the things that bring lasting peace and satisfaction -- not the things we think we want or strive to achieve apart from God."
Our God is not Santa Claus where you sit on His lap and tell Him all of the things you want to have. No, this promise is an encouragement to spend time with Him every day so you can get to know Him. Delight in the Lord. Read the Bible, and talk to Him. Don't forget to listen!
I love this psalm! Be sure to read the whole of it. Lots of treasures can be uncovered there!
In my Jeruselum bible verse 3 - 7 says: " Trust in Yahweh and do what is good, make your home in the land and live in peace; make Yahweh your ONLY joy and He will give you what your heart desires.
Commit your fate to Yahweh, trust in Him He will act; making your virtue clear as the light, your integrity as bright as noon.
Be quiet before Yahweh, and wait patiently for Him."
Isn't this wonderful? These verses are a verb in God's word. They give us plenty of ways we can DO. Such as: Trust Him DO what is good Make your home in the land (His presence.) Make Him my only joy Commit my fate to Him Be quiet before Him Wait patiently Etc, etc, etc. These verbs can keep us busy for awhile, don't you think?
And then there are the promises in just these few verses: He will give you what your heart desires.
He will act.
He will make my virtue clear. and my integrity as bright as noon.
This whole psalm is like this. Read it in it's entirety. And share your thoughts and insights with all of us here.
The last verse of the psalm is this:
"The salvation of the virtuous comes from Yahweh, He is their shelter when trouble comes; Yahweh helps and rescues them, He saves them because they take shelter in Him." !!! Isn't this a beautiful promise. Take shelter in HIM!!!!
And then there is verses 23-28 "Yahweh guides a man's steps, they are sure, and He takes pleasure in his progress; he may fall, but never fatally, since Yahweh supports him by the hand." Could this be why I wasn't hurt worse than I was when I fell?
And: "Now I am old, but ever since my youth I never saw a virtuous man deserted, or his descendants forced to beg their bread; he is always compassionate, always lending; HIS CHILDREN WILL BE BLESSED!" I love this!
"Never yield to evil, practise good and you will have an everlasting home, for Yahweh loves what is right, and never deserts the devout."
These verses and this psalm are so uplifting and so encouraging. I will always strive to be a "righteous man". I know I fall - lots - and fail in my striving, but I also know my God is a forgiving God. I will always confess my wrongdoings and repent and ask forgiveness, knowing I have it when I do what HE asks of me.
Meditate for awhile on this psalm. Verse 7 - "Be quiet before Yahweh, and wait patiently for Him."

Verse 8: (Good advice from GOD)
"Enough of anger, leave rage aside, do not worry, nothing but evil can come of it."
This verse speaks loud and clear to me. Does it to you?
I like these verses. Great advice!
I love your insights, mom. Thank you for showing me all that is packed in this one little psalm. God is so good!
