I just commented on Mom's post about Corinthians about this.

Sheep are interesting animals to study about. Go to Google or whatever and google in sheep or lambs. Ask Jean and Mary Ellen's family about the sheep. Fr. Gorman used to teach about sheep. He was born and raised in Ireland and his family were sheep herders. So when Jesus talks about being the "Good Shepherd", and his flock, you can visualize how important the sheep are to the shepherd. One of the things about the sheep is they recognize their own shepherd. They know his voice, and they know He knows them, so they follow him. The sheep depend on the shepherd for their life. They will never be lost because the shepherd keeps them in view, and if one of them is lost, he will find it and carry it back to the flock. I'm sure you've all seen the picture of the shepherd Jesus carrying the lost lamb. No one can ever steal them from Him. Meaning the predators that stock the little lambs and sheep. Jesus, our shepherd, guards and protects us from Satan, the predator of all God's little lambs. He gave His life in ransom for His flock. He paid the ultimate price for us! His very life.

Then, in verse 29, here is what Jesus says to those who were questioning Him: The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.

This is a great promise!

Now we must figure out how to be in the flock of Jesus. In verse 25 Jesus says "I have told you who I am, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name are my witness; but you do not believe, because you are no sheep of mine. The sheep that belong to me LISTEN (this word means a contempletive, listening heart) to my voice; I know them and they FOLLOW me. This is a gift given as the result of the listening, contempletive heart. We can know Him, we can follow where He leads.

I found a wonderful story about a saint of a man - Father Kolbe - who died in Auschwitz - a martyr for the faith of Jesus and a story to illustrate this scripture so beautifully. I will have to post it at a different time, however. Tune in later.

That's a great picture about the sheep and the shepherd, Mom.

Listening is the hardest thing for me to do. Often I want to do the talking and not the listening. Even with God! Listening is something I have been working on this year in my job and in my time with the Lord.

Listening is hard.
