I love this promise. (of course, I could say that about them all! :)

I think especially because depression has affects all of us, this promise shows that Christ is our Burden-Bearer. And that gives is hope.

Hmmmm. I posted a commentary on this one last night, but it didn't post! So, I'll see if I can do it again. (Think, Brain!)

"Come to me, all you who labor and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light."

Who among us has not had times when we feel so overburdened and overworked? So tired we could hardly move another muscle? Overwhelmed with responsibilities and problems? Jesus says to come unto HIM. HE will give us rest. We can find rest for our souls and bodies in HIM. Have you ever noticed the oxen in pictures, or movies, or observed in person (or oxen) how the farmer has the yoke connected between two oxen. They pull the heavy plow through the fields and turn the soil. Hard, hard work. The yoke balances the load. The yoke makes it easier for each oxen to pull. They help each other accomplish the hard work. That is what Jesus wants us to do - to shoulder his yoke - know that the yoke is joining you to Him in all of your burdens and your problems and your work. He wants us to learn gentleness and humility from Him. He wants us to learn from Him. He wants to bear our sorrows. We will find rest for our souls! Because His yoke is easy and His burden is light!

What a promise!

There is some really good stuff on depression in that book I gave all of you: (except I didn't send one to Brian or Chuck. If you would like one, please let me know and I'll send you one, too.) "Healing Where it Hurts . . . on the inside." Go to pages 110 through page 136. This book is so good all the way through it. I am almost finished reading mine and I have a couple more coming in the mail. The book I have is yours, Linda. I'll give it to you when we get to Kay's.

That's a great picture of the oxen, Mom. I had never thought of that before in terms of shouldering His yoke. He says My yoke is easy and my burden lihgt. He is taking our burden onto Himself so that it is easier for us. How many times do we Yoke with worry, or with fear instead? That makes our yoke heavy and unbearable because worry and fear don't lessen our load like Jesus does.

Also, it says "Come to me...and I will give you rest." Jesus wants us to know Him and the only way to do that is through His Word. I really encourage you to spend time reading the Bible and praying every day!
